Welcome to my Clan page. Even though I have only been aware of my Scottish heritage for only a short time I am very proud of it. I trace my heritage through my mother's side of the family whose name is Fisher, a sept of Clan Campbell. While not directly a Campbell I claim clanship through the sept. Septs are smaller families or clans joined to larger clans through marriage or for protection (in the turbelant past this was a common practice due to the scale of inter-clan warfare).
No references to the name Fisher will be found much prior to the 17th century. Then the name was in the Gaelic form of 'Macineskar', son of the fisher(man).

From 'The Little Book of Scottish Clans'

"The history of Scotland is a long one, full of the drama of war and rebellion, of emigration, clan loyalty, solidarity, and acheivement. Like all history, however, it is composed of countless individual family histories, each unique. Surnames are the point where history and individuality and kinship come together.'

'The Scottish clan or family tartan is of comparatively recent origin, but its genesis and development are inextricably linked with the colorful story of Scotland herself. Today, woven from the very fiber of Scotland's past, clan tartans transcend the nation's boundaries as the marks of kindred identities that span the world.'

'Any surname, borne by a Scottish person, whatever it's origin, is a Scottish surname."

The above paragraphs are quoted from the Introduction page of "The Little Book of Scottish Clans" (1995 CLB Publishing, Godalming, Surrey, U.K.). A very handy book Quick reference on the major Clans.

Here's the weather in the 'AULD COUNTRY'

Back in '97 my wife and I began with the embryo of an idea to have Highland Games in our hometown of Archdale, NC. With 3 of the 4 Games in NC located in the western portion of the state and one in the mid-eastern portion, it became evident that the central piedmont area didn't have anything. We had to travel several hours to attend the events. With the high concentration of people in the Triad area (High Point, Greensboro, Winston Salem) we thought the triad would be a good location for some Games. Well, after picking the brains of the Games coordinators of the other 4 Games, vendors, athletes, pipebands, and anyone else we could find, we decided to start the planning of the Triad Highland Games. Soon we had some others who were soon on fire with the idea. No one told us it couldn't be done so, we did it. In 1999 we held our first UNofficial Games. This was a free event (yeah right, tell my bank account that) with most all of the participants donating their time and talents to make it a success. We had 20 Clans, 3 Societies, 6 or 8 vendors, 3 pipebands, dancers, and a WHOLE lot of people. (Guess no one told them that it couldn't come about either). Estimated attendance was in the ballpark of 3500. If I had known that many would have shown up I would have driven to Buckner and had myself admitted.

This year, 2000, will be our first OFFICIAL Triad Highland Games. We have more Clans 'acoming', more vendors, more musicians, more headaches, etc. But we are pleased to present the 'Triad Highland Games 2000'. Also this year we are 'twinned' with the 177 year old Inverness Highland Games of Inverness, Scotland. We are pleased, honored, and a little awed, to be twinned with them. God bless Gerry Reynolds and the staff of the Inverness Games for their direction and inspiration.
